Resilient Leaders Flyer 1

After this course, participants will be able to:

>> Explain the Sailboat Metaphor and use it to understand their own resilience, strengths, weaknesses, and life domains.

>> Direct their attention more effectively, shifting away from a negativity spiral and toward neutral and positive anchors that support well-being.

>> Notice unhelpful thinking patterns and generate more helpful, reality‑based thoughts that increase confidence, hope, and perspective.

>> Understand the role of personal values for motivation to keep moving forward in difficult times.

>> Distinguish between what they can and cannot control, and choose when to take action and when to surrender to reduce stress and ‘stuckness’.

>> Create a practical, personalized resilience plan they can continue to apply after the program ends.

Resilient Leaders Session 1

Session 1: THE SAILBOAT METAPHOR

Participants are introduced to a simple visual model that compares life to a sailboat journey, exploring key elements such as emotions, values, strengths, weaknesses, relationships, and goals, and how these influence resilience.

Resilient Leaders Session 2

Session 2: MASTERING ATTENTION

This session shows how attention works like the captain’s binoculars, teaching participants to notice their bias toward negativity and deliberately focus on neutral and positive internal and external experiences to feel more grounded and resourceful.

Resilient Leaders Session 3

Session 3: THE POWER OF THOUGHTS

Participants learn how thoughts shape feelings, practice stepping back from unhelpful thinking, and experiment with more helpful alternatives such as challenge appraisals, benefit finding, and realistic optimism.

Resilient Leaders Session 4

Session 4: MOTIVATION TO PUSH FORWARD

This session helps participants identify their most important values and translate them into concrete actions, so they have a clear “why” that keeps them moving even when life and work are demanding.

Resilient Leaders Session 5

Session 5: EFFECTIVE COPING

Participants explore different ways of coping with stress, the idea of “controllability,” and how to choose between taking action and letting go, using practical examples and the Sailboat Metaphor as a guide.

Resilient Leaders Session 6

Session 6: THE RESILIENCE PLAN

In the final session, participants reflect on how they have grown as “captains,” consolidate insights from attention, thoughts, motivation, and coping, and build a simple resilience plan to support a more resilient future.
