We have all been there: January 1st arrives, most of us are buzzing with “New Year Resolution, A New Me” and by the third week of January, our resolutions are buried under the saying, “I will start next year,” especially if the resolution is to go to the gym. The excuse is “There are so many people in the gym.” Or on savings, “I’ll start saving tomorrow,” and all the other excuses. The secret to breaking the cycles isn’t just trying harder. It’s about clarity.
When you define exactly where you’re going and keep that image front and center, your brain stops looking for distractions and starts look for opportunities.
The Power of the Written Word
Writing our goals down isn’t just an organizational hack; it’s a psychological shift. When we move a thought from our head to paper, we make a formal contract with ourselves. It triggers a process in our brain called encoding which helps us retain and prioritize that information
Many of us who fail to follow through on what we said at the beginning of the year end up saying, “We will start next year instead.” If you think about it, every new day is a new year, so why wait for next year?
Thy Seven Pillars of a Balanced Life
To avoid burnout, you can focus on your bank account while your health or relationship suffers. True success requires a “Whole-Life” approach. Try setting one specific goal in each of these seven areas:
| AREA | FOCUS |
| Career & Business | Your professional growth, promotion or entrepreneurial undertakings |
| Financial | Savings targets, debt reduction, or investment milestones |
| Relationships | Quality time with family, friendships or finding a partner |
| Health & Fitness | Physical strength, mental clarity, nutrition and sleep |
| Fun & Recreation | Travel, hobbies and things that make you feel alive |
| Personal | Anything you want to have, do or be |
| Contribution | Giving back to your community, mentoring or charity work |
Visualizing Your Future: The Vision Board
If written goals are the map, a Vision Board is the GPS. Our brains process images 60,000 times faster than text, by creating a collage of images that represent your 7 areas of our goals, we are feeding our subconscious mind a constant stream of “This is it! This is our destination!”
The Final Touch: Affirmation
Visualizations show us the where, but Affirmation builds the who. Affirmations are positive, present-tense statements that challenge self-sabotaging thoughts. Instead of saying “I will be healthy.” Say, “I am healthy because I eat nutritious food and I feel strong every day.”
By repeating these, we rewire our internal talk, replacing doubt with our identity who has already achieved our goals.
My challenge to you: Map out your seven areas, write one goal for each area, and find images that represent them. I have created my vision for this year and next year. Why not try it NOW?
